The Executive Board of the Retiree’s Council of NAPE/AFSCME local #161 met on December 8th at noon at DaVinci’s on North 66th in Lincoln, Nebraska.
The meeting was called to order by President Mary Buchholz. Roll was called and the minutes of the last meeting were read and approved. Board members that were in attendance at the meeting were, Mary and Bob Buchholz, Rita Hill, Ralph Hayden, Wayne Foster, Manny Gallardo, Charles Stadler, Liz Huff, and Hattie McMahan.
The Board members paid our yearly dues of $20.00 and received our new Nape retiree’s pin. They are lovely pins and we need to give a big thanks to Liz Huff for her effort in getting us a good price on the pins. If you haven’t paid your dues this year, it is not to late. You can send a check to Ralph Hayden, 8221 Sandalwood Drive, Lincoln Nebraska, 68510. If you are in the neighborhood of the Nape office and would rather just drop off your dues, they will see to it that Ralph gets them.
I am still trying to get an e-mail list of retiree members. If you would like to be included in my list please send me your e-mail address. My new address is hlmcmahan@aol.com.
The Executive Board voted to purchase a Christmas tray of goodies for the Nape office, in appreciation of all they do for the Retirees.
Ralph Hayden gave the Treasurer’s report. We have a total of $3,087.77. The report was approved.
Have you all been making some noise? Have you been calling, writing, or visiting with your Senator about the issues that affect the retiree’s that are on the Legislative docket, waiting to be passed, if we let them know we want to be heard. Did you notice how the people of Ashland went in mass to the Legislature to let all the Senators know what they thought of the idea to make a lake out of Ashland. Numbers do count, if we have enough voices, they are heard.
In our September meeting, Rich Lombardi was in attendance and suggested that we contact Mark Intermill, a guest speaker for AARP, to see if we could work together on some issues that concerned both organizations. Mary just called to let me know that she had gotten in touch with Mark and he and Rich will both be attending our Meeting on March 2nd.
We also need to let State employee’s know that we have a Retiree Chapter. We need to be able to find out who is retiring so we can contact them and send them a invitation to join us. Since the state won’t give us a list of people retiring, we need to come up with a plan to find out who these people are.
The next meeting will be held at the Golden Corral on Thursday March 2nd, on North 27th in Lincoln We invite all of you to come out to the meeting and meet with Mark and Rich. I am sure Rich will give us an update on the Legislative agenda. We will also visit with Mark, which could prove very interesting.
The December Meeting was adjourned. Submitted by Hattie McMahan Secretary
